From 20 euros

Service Description

(ADULT GROUP 13+) Have you always been interested to play percussion but never had a chance to try? Or maybe you have played something in a school band but would like to explore a different drumming tradition now? Enter the bodhran: Ireland's own frame drum, uniquely played with a stick (AKA tipper AKA beater). Because of its construction and playing technique, the bodhran is suprisingly versatile and can be used for ANY style of music! In 3 months, we will master all the basic bodhran techniques, and get you comfortable with playing basic accompaniment to Irish jigs and reels and waltzes, as well as any other musical genres in 4/4 and 6/8 and 3/4 metres. After this course, you'll be set to accompany Irish tunes on your bodhran, for example during our Learning Session, or on your at home with the recordings! What we'll learn: - different tones that a bodhran can produce - playing in time and being rhythmical - accents & dynamics - multiple of different Irish and other rhythms - lots of practice with actual tunes and songs at slow & moderate pace - how to practice effectively and what to practice We will learn by ear, so there is no need to be able to read music notation! This is the most traditional, and the best, way of learning Irish music -- your brain retains it for longer and understands it better, and you can then transpose it to other instruments more easily. PS: If you don't have a bodhran, no worries! We can loan you one, but we only have 3 bodhrans available at each time. Let us know if you have your own drum!
