Learn Irish Tunes intermediate group

Service Description

(ADULT GROUP 13+) Already play a melody instrument of any sort, but don't know any (or not enough) Irish tunes yet? Our learners' session might be for you! Each time, we learn 1-2 Irish tunes by ear on the fly in a small group. This is the most traditional, and the best, way to study Irish music! After we all learn a tune piece by piece, we practice it slowly to make sure you will retain it and can then perfect it at home. We'll share musical notation (sheet music) after the session with you, so that you don't have to transcribe tunes yourself! You will need: * your own instrument that you can easily play melodies on -- specifically in keys of D major and G major (majority of Irish tunes are traditionally played in these keys, as well as parallel minors) * at least 1-2 years of solid experience playing that instrument (you must know confidently where each note is and be able to produce short slow musical phrases of 3-5 notes by ear -- or at least by note name, at will, and many times over) What will we learn: * jigs (6/8 time) * reels (2/2 time) * hornpipes (2/2 swing time) * polkas (2/4 time) * marches (2/4 time) * occasionally other tune types, like strathpeys and song airs !!! No need to pre-learn the tunes upfront, just come as you are !!! !!! You do NOT need to know how to read music notation !!! !!! Sorry we do NOT study any songs in this session !!! !!! Sorry we do NOT focus on harmony (chords) in this session, but you're welcome to bring a harmony instrument & figure chords out yourself !!!
