(ADULT GROUP 13+) You have had some experience playing musical instruments before, but would like to try a new one now? Maybe you have never tried Irish traditional music yet but were always interested in it? Or maybe just want to try a woodwind instrument in addition to what you already play? Enter the humble tinwhistle: one of the simplest instruments in the world -- yet so capable of producing AMAZING Irish trad music in skilled hands! No wonder some of the best musicians in Ireland and worldwide use it so extensively. The tinwhistle is much easier to play than any transverse flute, and even easier than a recorder! There are just 6 holes + a hole to blow into, and that's it. Yet you can play in two major & two minor keys with absolute ease. In 3 months, we will master all the basic tinwhistle techniques, and get you playing all the primary types of Irish traditional tunes (jigs, reels, polkas, hornpipes) on the tinwhistle. After this course, you'll be set to learn new Irish (or any other major/minor) tunes on your own and/or in our guided Learner Sessions, as well as progress into private lessons for more advanced tuition. What we'll learn: - how to play all the 2 octaves of the tinwhistle range - various breathing & tonguing techniques - different rhythms & time signatures of Irish tunes - a selection of trad Irish tunes including jigs, reels, polkas, and hornpipes - how to practice effectively and what to practice We will learn by ear, so there is no need to be able to read music notation! This is the most traditional, and the best, way of learning Irish music -- your brain retains it for longer and understands it better, and you can then transpose it to other instruments more easily. PS: If you don't have a tinwhistle, no worries! We will have a few simple whistles for loan for free, and you can also buy them off us for just 5 to 10 EUR depending on the model.
